90 coaches from top colleges across the country attended the girls games in San Diego. Some of the college coaches present were from: Purdue, Loyola Marymount,UCLA,Boston College,Wake Forest,Baylor,Oregon State,Rice,Stanford,Berkeley,U. Of Hawaii,Texas A&M,Notre Dame,Brown University,USC,Santa Clara,Georgetown,University Of North Carolina,Harvard,Penn State,Northwestern,     Pepperdine,Syracuse,Princeton,Duke and Dartmouth.

Arizona powerhouse Sereno 94 Boys White had to make one of the longest journeys of any team participating in the Jefferson Cup. An aggravating sequence of travel woes didn’t stop the team from turning the heads of rivals, fans and college scouts alike . . . Soccer Wire

Cassie Miller, was among the 18 players who made the cut to travel with the U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team in a couple of weeks to a two-week tournament in Spain. That event will serve as a warm-up for the CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament in Guatemala from May 2-13. This past week, Miller took part in a domestic training camp in Sunrise, Fla., during which 24 players were evaluated over a pair of friendly victories against Germany. At the upcoming CONCACAF qualifier, the finalists and third-place match winner will qualify for the 2012 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup which will take place from Sept. 22-Oct. 13 in Azerbaijan.

 A great week for Sereno players! As Julie Johnston (92), Santa Clara, was selected for the U20 Women’s National Team Tournament in La Marca, Spain. Also, current 94 players signed National Letters of Intent February 1, 2012: Aly DeRonde (Nevada), Alix Williams (Nevada), Lucy Lara (ASU), Courtney Chung (NAU), Katie Boyle (ELON), Jenn Stuart (CSU Fullerton), Kim Smith (Missouri State), Sydney Tomlinson (Cincinnati), and Shelby Oelschlager (Valparaiso).  In addition, the future looks bright for up and coming players who have been selected to attend National Camps in the coming weeks: Cassie Miller (95), Jorian Baucom (96) and Jalen Tompkins (97). The coaching staff and club are very proud of the girls achievements.

Thanks to our partners at ATHLETES’ PERFORMANCE, members of our coaching staff had the opportunity to sit down with Jurgen Klinsmann, US Men’s National Team Head Coach. The US Men’s National Team is in Phoenix to play a friendly Saturday January 21, 2012 at 7:00pm vs Venezuela. 

Congratulations to the 40 Sereno players in the ’99 to ’95 age-groups for being selected to the 2011-12 Arizona Youth Soccer - Olympic Development Program - Region IV Championship rosters. These teams will represent Arizona in the 2012 Region IV ODP Championship’s to be held January 14-17 at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix, Arizona.

98 Girls South won the San Tan Holiday Classic! The girls went undefeated, beating San Tan 3-0 in the finals, giving up only one goal the entire weekend and scoring 17 goals. Congratulations on a great tournament!

Phoenix, AZ - This past weekend (11/19-11/20) the Sereno 94 Boys White team won the U-18 Far West Region League Fall Championship.  The boys went undefeated in their divisional regular season matches qualifying for the Championship Round.  For the Championship Round the boys defeated TSA 94 Red (AZ), West Coast FC (CA) - previously undefeated winner of the other division and the 2011 Region IV Champion Rush Nike Argonauts (NM).  The title secures their spot at the USYS Region IV Championships to be held in Phoenix June 18-24th, 2012.  The 01 Boys White South had the opportunity to play at halftime of the season opener for the new Pro indoor soccer team the Phoenix Monsoon. Luis Dabo, the head coach  was so excited to see our boys play that he is going to choose one of the boys to receive an autographed picture of him and PELE. The Monsoon play in the PASL which is the Professional Arena Soccer League  http://www.paslsoccer.com/ . The Monsoon have offered to discount tickets for Sereno family’s;  $5 for the players in Sereno gear and $10 for their parents and siblings. 

Phoenix, AZ - The Sereno girls ECNL teams finished the ECNL National Event #1 with an impressive overall record of 6 wins, 2 losses and 4 ties against the top girls teams in the country.  The 4 teams, coached by Paul Taylor, Darwish Khalil, Paul Lester, John DeMartini and Katie Cole, all played well: the 97 GW finished 3-0-0, 96 GW were 0-1-2, 95 GW 1-1-1 and the 94 GW finished 2-0-1.  The 97 GW weekend featured a victory over the #2 Nationally Ranked West Coast FC.  Finally, the 98 GW team was not part of the National Event but did set an example for the weekend with a 10-0 ECNL league victory over SC Del Sol on Thu night.

Houston, TX - Boys Director of Coaching David Robertson and the Sereno 94 Boys White team have earned the respect of a few MLS Academy teams.  Recently, the team has arranged friendlies with the Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake Academy teams.  Over the weekend of 10/1-10/2 the boys beat the Dynamo U-18’s 3-1 and the U-16’s by the same score.  These matches, while friendly, demonstrate the quality of Sereno’s players and programs among the best boys teams in the country.  Sereno thanks the coaching staffs and players of both the Houston Dynamos and RSL for their generosity in arranging these matches to help our boys train at the highest level!  The team's trip blog notes add more detail here.

Phoenix, AZ - John Rea of the 98 Boys White Team returns from an amazing training experience with Chelsea FC’s youth teams.  John trained twice with the 97’s and once with the 98’s.  Training with the 97’s took place at Chelsea’s state of the art training facility in Cobham as part of their elite training centre programme.  John was also fortunate enough to take in a Liverpool - Tottenham game at White Hart Lane.  We welcome John back to Sereno and look forward to learning more about his wonderful training experience with Chelsea FC.

Phoenix, AZ - Many Sereno Players continue to be in the spotlight at ALL levels. Congratulations to these players for their accomplishments.  Cassie Miller--Invited to the U17 Women’s National Training Camp (Aug 21-29- Carson, CA). Identified as one of the top 18 players at the 2011 ECNL/id2 National Training Camp and Named to the ECNL International Tour Team--She leaves Aug 8 with the team for London, England. Cassie also attended the U17 National Team Domestic Training Camp--Jan 28-Feb 4, 2011. JJ Tompkins--Named to Region IV ODP 97 Regional Pool and Invited to the U14’s National Identification Camp next month.  Jorian Baucom--Attended both the U14 and U15 National Training Camps.  Gabriela Stoian--Attended U17 National Training Camp at the Home Depot Center--June 11-18.  Steven Lippe--Named to Region IV ODP 98 Regional Pool.  Raphaello Perez--Named to Region IV ODP 98 Regional Pool.  Sydney Tomlinson--Top Drawer-Players to Watch. Madison Lorenzen and Cassie Miller--Top Drawer-Featured Players.

Boise, ID - The Sereno SC 92BW team beat the defending National Champion Eastside (OR) 2-0 to advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships.  Congratulations to the team and coach Brian O'Donnell.  2 Sereno teams represented Arizona by advancing to the 2011 regional final matches today: Sereno 92BW and Sereno 98GW.  The 92BW scored a goal in the first half and then defended fiercely finally notching their 2nd goal late.  The 98GW pushed their Arsenal (CA-S) opponents to extra time before getting narrowly edged 1-2.  The USYS National Championships will be hosted in Phoenix this year from July 27-31. Phoenix, AZ - In 2011, Sereno Soccer Club teams won 8 of 16 Arizona State Cup Championship titles and 3 Presidents Cup Championship titles.  Sereno teams included the 11 Champions, 6 Finalists and 7 Semifinalists.  A Sereno team finished in the Top 3 in every age group available and in 4 ages we placed 2 teams in the Top 4.  Sereno SC will send 10 teams into the Far West Region Championships to represent Arizona.  Regional Championships are not available for our U-11 Boys and Girls State Champions.  Congratulations and Good Luck at the 2011 US Youth Soccer Region IV Championships!  Our 2011 Champions Page and 2010 Champions Page are available for photos and more details.

Phoenix, AZ - Sereno Soccer Club congratulates all of our high school graduates completing their academic requirements this week and next.  The opportunities available to our athletes reflect the commitment of our players, NLPP program, coaching staff, trainers, and parents to prepare our players for their college careers.  At this time 15 girls and 15 boys have signed college commitments to continue their soccer playing careers.  Perennial Top-25 NCAA Division-1 and 2 universities represented include: Butler, Grand Canyon University, Michigan, Portland, Slippery Rock, St. John’s, Tampa and Texas A&M.  Click here to see the full list of athletes and schools.  Congratulations to all!

Tucson, AZ - Tonight marks the opening games of the FC Tucson Desert Diamond Cup at a reinvented Kino Stadium. For the next 2 weeks all eyes in the MLS (and NBC Sports) will be on Tucson, Arizona as last year’s MLS Cup Champion LA Galaxy join NY Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake and New England Revolution in some final tune-ups approaching the MLS regular season.  Expected on the pitch are all-stars David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez, Nick Rimando and Kyle Beckerman along with rising stars Luis Gil, Kelyn Rowe and RSL Academy’s Carlos Salcedo.  Along with afternoon tailgating, a ticket to the event features two matches each night (at 6 and 8pm).
